Gatfruit spam almost never happens, it's a rare thing and because of that it usually applies just the right amount of chaos to the round (and it's fun that it can happen, you know what's that?). Before yesterday, the last time I saw gatfruit spam was on Golden, so quite some time ago (and even before that, it was very rare) so it's a non issue from the game/RP point of view. And roboburgers, like what. At this point you're just removing fun and rare stuff from the game because yes. |
When someone figures out how to do stuff like this, you often cannot trust players to not keep doing it. I nerf stuff that's bad for balance when it's complained about in the discord, as that's the sign players know about it |
Just because something happened once, doesn't mean it should outright be removed. It's not game breaking, as much as mass ordering lasers isn't either, maybe add some logging for admins so they can easily figure out who's responsible for the spam, but don't remove the feature. |
gunspam is gunspam, and gatfruit spam (in theory) requires a botanist with a brain, a xenobiologist with a brain, like 20 minutes with max brain of just growing the fucking plant, and then security needs to not do their fucking jobs and arrest the people with contraband revolvers, as opposed to any other kind of gunspam which requires usually one cargo tech with a brain and like, nanomachines at least let you continue to play the game as a non-simplemob and maybe even get cloned, as opposed to black mutation toxin which has had griefers abusing it for weeks, and since you removed any and all nuance with that chem the only reason it still has to exist is

How about 5 rare ingredients instead? silvers still generate food that are often at time impossible for a chef to make without understanding or cooperation with botany and cargo. |
Silver extracts don't really make either useless, I really like using silver extracts as a bartender to try to get a few of the rarer ingredients for drinks (especially since for whatever reason you can't grow peaches for Blazaam). The only real impact that silver slimes have on the chef is maybe access to some random new meats from humanoids, and food that they wouldn't have been able to make because botany is being lazy or food that wouldn't have been able to be made that round. Also technically both the chef and bartender are completely useless because you can both just get booze yourself from the bar and you can just buy food at vending machines. The difference is that you can get better food/drinks with someone you'd at least expect to know what they're doing
The only time I've seen gatfruit being spammed on the station is whenever miners steal the packet of seeds form living terrariums and give it to botany. Overall, I think crippling them just leads to more frustrations with the bartender and chef trying to get botany to do their job and grow more than just acid/BS tomatoes and weed. If you're worried about gatfruit and the roboburger (which I think I've seen spawn once from using silver extract) just decrease the chances of getting it, I already assume they're ridiculously low because I haven't even been able to get a gatfruit when using silver extracts. |
Out of everything that xenobiology has that is strong, this is definitely rather low on the list. Roburgers, with their instant kill attribute with virus food speeding it up, are already slated to be modified to not do that; and even if it does occur, cyborgification can be reversed if other crew is competent. Ultimately, this is not 'it', as they say, chief. |

An alternative source of variable products for the chef other than botany and cargo would be nice. Botany is good at mass producing stuff when they cooperate, but do almost nothing when they don't, cargo doesn't cover the cases where you need multiple of one specific ingredient.
Remove crossbreeds then?
Except also a funny antag gimmick. If you REALLY want to deal with the roburger issue, make the roburgers giving nanomachines only when eaten.
As Pricklytomato said, stealing seeds from the terrarium is much more common. It is not as reliable as grinding (no, the other type of grinding) silver extracts, but requires much less effort. Bad PR. Please try some other approach. |

Why It's Good For The Game
Xenobio shouldnt be able to walk into the bar with a bag of silver extracts and render the chef and bartender completely useless with a bit of plasma.
roburger nanomachines shouldnt be obtainable in reagent form, gatfruit can majorly throw off round balance if given to botany
